Netherlands hold off South Africa in quarterfinals

KATHMANDU: The Netherlands, the former World Cup runner-up, has advanced to the quarterfinals in this tournament.

The Dutch squad handily defeated South Africa 2-0 in the Women’s World Cup 2023.

Jill Roord scored the first goal for the Netherlands in the ninth minute of the match at the Sydney Football Stadium. Lineth Beerensteyn then scored the game’s second goal in the 68th minute.

Two bullets from the Netherlands were directed towards the post but were not identified.

The Netherlands will now meet another good squad, Spain, in the quarterfinals.
