Spain thrash Switzerland 5-1 to reach quarter-finals

KATHMANDU: Spain will compete in the Women’s World Cup quarterfinals for the first time on Saturday.

Spain handily trounced Switzerland 5-1 in the last 16 encounter.

Spain will now face either the Netherlands or South Africa in the round of eight.

Aitana Bonmati scored twice for Spain in the tournament’s opening knockout round.

Alba Redondo, Codina, and Jennifer Hermoso each scored one goal. Laia Codina did not return a goal for Switzerland.
