KATHMANDU: World Breastfeeding Week has started today, Tuesday. Every year, from the 1st to the 7th of August, it is observed to promote awareness about the importance of breastfeeding. This year, the tagline for this day is “Let’s breastfeed, let’s work.”

This year’s motto emphasizes the importance of creating a safe atmosphere for nursing in the workplace and arranging leave for breastfeeding mothers.

The World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF have been urging governments and companies to create family-friendly policies that give mothers the time, space, and support they need to breastfeed.

Breastfeeding is said to be the most natural, oldest and first vaccine for babies. Milk has anti-disease properties, which helps in developing the ability of newborns to fight against diseases.
