Morocco’s historic win over Korea

KATHMANDU: On Sunday, Morocco stunned South Korea 1-0 in Group ‘H’ of the Women’s World Cup 2023. This was a historic achievement for African countries.

Ibtissam Jraidi scored the game’s sole goal in the sixth minute with a header. Morocco defeated South Korea despite being ranked 72nd in FIFA.

South Korea was defeated for the second time in a row. South Korea will be eliminated from the tournament if Germany avoids defeat against Colombia in the next group encounter.

Morocco’s Nouhaila Benzina also created a new history from this match. She became the first player to play in the Women’s World Cup wearing a hijab.

FIFA allowed the wearing of the hijab for religious reasons in 2014.
