KATHMANDU: The reigning champion Netherlands was held to a dramatic 1-1 draw by America in the most anticipated encounter of the Women’s World Cup 2023 league stage.

This was a rematch of the 2019 final.

America had a 2-0 lead. Both were placed in the same group ‘E’ in this tournament. Jill Roord’s goal in the 17th minute gave the runner-up Netherlands the lead in this match.

The match ended in a tie when American captain Lindsey Horan scored from close range in the 62nd minute of the second half.
