KATHMANDU: Germany, a strong contender, got off to a fast start in the Women’s World Cup on Monday.
They handily defeated Morocco 6-0 in Group ‘G’ play.
Morocco’s performance remained poor with this setback, in which Germany reinforced its hold on the group.
Morocco’s performance was the most dismal of the eight teams making their World Cup debuts.
Alexandra Popp, Germany’s captain, scored two goals. Similarly, Klara Buhl and Lea Schuller each scored one goal.
The remaining two goals were a suicide goal by Morocoo’s Hanane Ait el Haj and once by Yasmin Mrabet.
Germany is currently the favourite to win Group H after scoring six goals against Morocco.
