KATHMANDU: Sibendra Rohita, the Madhesh State Coordinator for Makalu Khabar, was beaten up. Rohita was beaten up on the design of the chief administrative officer under the guise of writing the news on Monday night.

On Saturday, Ashar 23 (July 8), ‘Dhanauji Rural Municipality: Local Consumer Marks Due to Boss’s Attitude’ was published under the headline ‘Bouncers Working in the Municipality, the Boss Working with Irregularities’ in the ‘byline’ of Makalu Khabar Correspondent Sibendra Rohita. In this manner, the top administrative officer of Dhanauji Rural Municipality, Ranjit Yadav, was beaten up on journalist Rohitha under the guise of reporting on irregularities and chaos in the municipality.

Officer Yadav enlisted the help of his siblings and goons to savagely beat up Rohita. They assaulted journalist Rohitha, who reached in a Scorpio car (Ba 12 Cha 4243) at Janakpur’s Bhanu Chowk, a popular market where police are present 24 hours a day. After seeing the attack on the journalists, the villagers attacked and pursued them, forcing them to abandon the Scorpio car and flee.

It is understood that the vehicle is being used for rent by the rural municipality. Locals said that they came with the intention of killing the journalist Rohitha with weapons in the car. Journalist Rohitha said that among the attackers, Yadav’s brother, Sunil Adhikari, alias Sweeta, Sonu Karna alias Billa, Mithu and other youths were known to him. Journalist Rohitha alleges that the police, on the contrary, helped the attackers.

The police, according to journalist Rohita, had a part in chasing away the armed assailants rather than detaining them. After treatment in Janakpur proved insufficient for journalist Rohita, he was sent to Kathmandu.

The Dhanusha police, on the other hand, stated that the matter is being probed. According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Vishwaraj Khadka, there were injuries on both sides. According to preliminary reports, both sides have been injured. “We have not been able to talk to the journalist side,” he explained.

CCTV footage has been obtained for the investigation of the incident. SP Khadka said that journalist Rohita was undergoing treatment in Kathmandu and could not talk. “I am coordinating with the Lalitpur police. Both sides are heard,” he said. “After finding out the truth, necessary action will be taken against the culprits.”
