KATHMANDU: Nepali movie ‘Gurans’ is to be screened in the ‘The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival’, the prestigious film event in Europe. Gurans literally means the rhododendron, the national flower of Nepal.

The festival is taking place in the Czech Republic on coming July 5.

Film actress Menuka Pradhan and director Saurabh Rai will be participating in the event. Pradhan, with her background as a theatre artist and who shortly established her identity in the Nepali film industry, says she is excited to be part of the international film festival. She is featured in the role of a mother in ‘Gurans’.

The film, a joint project of Nepal and India, weaves the story from the perception of a 10-year-old girl who is desperate to find her missing dog.

It highlights on socio-economic relations of Darjeeling, the part of the Indian state of West Bengal significantly settled by the Nepali-origin community.

Rai himself is the scriptwriter of the movie.

It stars Tulasi Khawas in the leading character ‘Gurans’ while Khagendra Lamichhane is cast in the role of a father.
