KATHMANDU: Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh and Lalitpur Metropolitan Municipality have inked an agreement to provide free eye care to all elderly people and disabled residents of the metropolitan area.

The agreement was signed on Monday during the MoU signing ceremony between the Lalitpur Metropolitan Municipality and health-related organizations for the “Metropolitan Program with Senior Citizens and Persons with Disabilities” at the Lalitpur Metropolitan Municipality.

The agreement was signed on behalf of Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh by General Secretary Bharat Bahadur Chand and Executive Director Dr. Shailesh Kumar Mishra, and on behalf of the Metropolitan Corporation by Metropolitan Chief Chiribabu Maharjan and Chief Executive Officer Ganesh Aryal.

The Metropolitan Corporation will go to the homes of senior citizens and disabled citizens in the city in collaboration with various organizations and examine various problems.

The Executive Director of the association, Dr. Shailesh Kumar Mishra, said that the Nepal Ophthalmology Association will provide technical support to the metropolitan in eye examination and treatment in the program of the metropolis.

Speaking at the MoU signing event, Metropolitan Chief Maharjan thanked the Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh for supporting the plan to provide home-based treatment to senior citizens and disabled citizens who could not reach the hospital due to physical disabilities and various constraints and said that this collaboration will continue for a long time.

Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh is currently providing quality eye care services to individuals across the country through 27 eye hospitals, 154 eye treatment facilities, and 44 district branches.

Drona Prasad Gurangain, treasurer of the association, ward presidents from various wards of the metropolitan, and officials from several associations were also present at the agreement signing event.
