KATHMANDU: Nepal won Group A by beating the host team in the final group stage match of the ACC East Zone U16 tournament in Malaysia.

Malaysia was bowled out after scoring 99 runs in 30 overs while chasing Nepal’s target of 184 runs.

Malaysia’s Mohammad Haril scored 25 runs off 54 balls. Muhammad Alif, the captain, scored 15 runs, while Muhammad Akram scored 12.

The other Malaysian batters failed to reach double figures.

Ashok Dhami grabbed four wickets for 14 runs in seven overs for Nepal. Captain Abhishek Tiwari collected three wickets, while Santosh Yadav took two.

Prior to it, Nepal, who won the toss and chose to bat first, scored 183 runs in 33 ten and four overs.

Ashok Dhami scored 52 runs in 36 balls for Nepal, including three fours and five sixes.

When Nepal reached 15 runs, the first wicket fell. Niraj Kumar got out after scoring 8 runs in 6 balls. For the second wicket, Deep Kumar and Suryanshu Koirala combined for 33 runs off 42 balls. Suryanshu hit 23 runs off 20 balls. Deep Kumar was dismissed after making 15 runs off 41 balls.

The subsequent players were unable to remain in the crease. Naren Bhatta and Ashok Dhami combined for 45 runs off 34 balls for the eighth wicket. Naren Bhatt made 29 runs off 43 balls.

Dhami’s half-century helped Nepal to a competitive score despite losing 7 wickets for 91 runs.

Dhami and Kritik Kamat collaborated for the ninth wicket and enjoyed a vital 39-run partnership off 31 balls. Kamat scored 16 runs off 17 balls, including one boundary.

Mohammad Mukri, Erin Ekwal, Harik Haikal, and Muhammad Akram each got two wickets for Malaysia, while Mohammad Fatul took one.

With the win, Nepal has entered the semi-finals as the winner of Group A. Defeated Malaysia became the runners-up in the group.

Nepal defeated Thailand by a wide margin of 225 runs in the first match. After winning the first match of the three-team group, Nepal has already entered the semi-finals.
