National football team returning home

KATHMANDU: The national football squad arriving home today after participating in the SAFF Championship in India.

The previous runner-up Nepali squad, which was ousted in the competition’s semi-final round, is scheduled to return to Nepal today.

The Nepalese squad will arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport at 8:35 p.m. on an Air India aircraft, according to the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA).

Nepal, which is in Group A, could only overcome Pakistan in the last match. Nepal was beaten in the first two matches against Kuwait and India, respectively.

The performance and result of Nepal, which reached the final in the previous edition, was forgettable this time.

Nepal’s preparation for the tournament was not good and most of the good and senior players have recently fled to foreign countries including Australia in search of a secure future.
