KATHMANDU: The construction of a bailey bridge on the Hewa Khola between Taplejung and Panchthar, which was damaged by rain, has begun.

The construction of the bailey bridge has begun on Monday at the site of physical and human harm.

Bidur Pokharel, project manager for the Mechi highway, said that construction on the Bailey Bridge had begun in earnest on Monday. He informed that the bailey ridge construction materials have reached the construction site. “Traffic will resume within a few days,” stated Pokharel.

The Hewa Khola bridge, which connected Taplejung and Panchthar on the Mechi highway, washed away in Sunday’s deluge. The search for the missing persons has been hampered because transportation has halted there.

On Monday, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Physical Infrastructure and Transport Minister Prakash Jwala, Urban Development Minister Sita Gurung and others inspected the flood-affected areas. On that occasion, Prime Minister Dahal instructed the relevant agencies to build the bridge as soon as possible.
