NRB to issue digital currency

KATHMANDU: Nepal Rastra Bank is preparing to launch electronic currency (digital currency).

In the signing program between Machhapuchhre Bank and Private and Residential School Organization (PABSON), Nepal on financial and electronic literacy, Executive Director Paudel stressed that instead of teaching old courses on electronic literacy, teachers and students should be able to absorb the new dimensions of every day with the development of modernity.
According to him, there is currently an average of Rs 40 billion in electronic transactions per month. He said that the use of electronic transactions is increasing in Nepal saying that 8.6 million people transacted more than Rs. 26 billion through QR codes last Baisakh. Rastra Bank is operating the current financial year as an electronic payment promotion year.
Dr Upendra Mahato, Chair of Machhapuchre Bank, stated that by boosting financial and electronic transactions, we can help establish a successful country.
According to DK Dhungana, Chair of PABSON, the country cannot flourish until there is a widespread understanding of financial transactions and technical difficulties.
On the occasion, PABSON Chair Dhungana and the Bank’s Chief Executive Officer Santosh Koirala signed an agreement regarding the financial and electronic literacy campaign.
