KATHMANDU: Mayor Harka Sampang of Dharan has decided to suspend the screening of the controversial film ‘Adipurush’ in city buildings.
This announcement was shared by Mayor Sampang on social media on Monday, stating that ‘Adipurush’ should not be shown in Dharan. Previously, screenings of the film were prohibited in Kathmandu and Pokhara.
Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah initially declared that no further Indian films would be screened unless a specific sentence in ‘Adipurush’ (“Sita is an Indian daughter”) was removed.
Following suit, the Pokhara Metropolitan Municipality also decided to discontinue the screening of Indian films.
The decisions taken by Mayor Sampang, Mayor Shah, and the Pokhara Metropolitan Municipality reflect the authorities’ stance regarding the screening of ‘Adipurush’ and their concerns over certain elements in the film.
