Flood in Taplejung: 3 houses washed away, Dobhan market at risk

TAPLEJUNG: The floods caused by the persistent rain carried away three houses in Ankhop, Taplejung’s Sidingwa Rural Municipality.
Local teacher Chaitanya Budhathoki reported that the water in Ingwa Khola yesterday night took away the homes of Prem Seling, Maheshwor Sheling, and Ganesh Seling.
He claims that the houses of Dilli Sheling, Ram Bahadur Selling, and Meen Budhathoki in the same neighbourhood are in jeopardy.
People evacuated their homes and relocated to a safer region after the water caused by the rain invaded the hamlet, resulting in no human loss.
The Ingwa Khola hydroelectric project has also been harmed by the flood. Cultivable ground along the river’s banks has also been washed away, as have some cattle pastures.
Similarly, Dobhan Bazar is at risk due to a flood in Maiwa Khola. Local Pradeep Pokharel said that two houses are at high risk after the flood eroded the market area. He believes Deepak Dhital and Suk Bahadur Limbu’s homes are in jeopardy. Although the floods have mainly subsided, the flow of water has not. After the midnight deluge, half of the market’s households had finally moved.
The route is claimed to be entirely closed as the water washed away the riverbank road leading to Meringden Rural Municipality.
Locals said that the Khartekhola suspension bridge, which connects Maiwakhola-2 and 5 wards, has been swept away.
Due to strong rainfall and landslides in several locations, most residents in the district’s villages had to remain up all night. It rained across the district. The flood in Yamphudin, Sirijunga Rural Municipality, occurred just on Thursday night.
Five government offices and 15 homes have been moved in this area.
Meanwhile, the Mechi highway was reported to be entirely shut when a flood washed away the bridge that joins Hilihang and Fidim towns under the Mechi highway.
