KATHMANDU: The doctors at Nepal Medical College in Attarkhel, Kathmandu, have closed the outpatient department (OPD) in protest of the vandalism by the patient’s family.
According to the hospital’s press release, routine hospital services could not be provided due to the disruption of peace and security caused by administration sabotage.
Furthermore, they have stated that they will suspend all services except for emergencies until individuals engaged in this tragedy are prosecuted and the safety of health professionals and health facilities is secured.
Suvarna Kumar Dhital, 71, of Gokarneshwor Municipality, Makalbari, was hospitalized to the hospital on Jestha 28 (June 11) for a stone operation, according to hospital in-charge Dilip Shah. Dhital was bleeding badly during the operation. According to him, the patient was then placed on a ventilator and treated.
He also expressed dissatisfaction with the patient’s relatives after he was placed on a ventilator. Along with the complaint, they stated that they will pursue legal action.
However, on Tuesday evening, the patient’s relatives ransacked the hospital, beat up the employees, and threatened them with foul language, according to him.
The Nepal Medical Association has also published a statement noting that being involved in illegal activity is very sad, even if there is a possibility to follow the legal process.
The union asked in the statement that individuals involved in the incident be prosecuted because the incident was heinous and despicable.
