KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat has said that for the protection of the domestic industry that produces sanitary pads, a different tax has been arranged on the tariff of raw materials and preparation pads.

In response to a question raised during today’s House of Representatives meeting on the annual estimate of revenue and expenditure for fiscal year 2080/81, Finance Minister Dr. Mahat stated that “industries established in Nepal for the purpose of producing sanitary pads have the capacity to export pads as well.”

He stated that if the customs rate on the raw materials used to manufacture such pads remains at one percent while the customs rate on the finished goods remains unchanged, the industry, which is self-sufficient, cannot be protected, so the duty rate on the import of finished pads has been raised.
