KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat has said that the budget of the Constituency Development Program will not go into the pockets of MPs.

In response to a question from parliamentarians about the allocated budget for the next fiscal year 2080/81, Finance Minister Mahat stated on Monday that it was widely circulated that the budget of the constituency development program was allocated to the parliamentarian’s pocket to demonstrate the importance of the budget.

He has set aside 50 million for each constituency and stated, ‘This fund would not go into the pockets of honorable MPs.’

He said that the money will be spent on a maximum of 50 million based on the recommendation of the parliamentarians and the relevant ministry will award the contract.

“It is not fair that honorable members should not even recommend”, Finance Minister Dr. Mahat said earlier, “The people’s expectations are high, the people do not understand the parliamentarians only as law makers, address it in a pleasant manner.” Therefore, the recommendation is justified.

He clarified that MPs are not discriminated against in the constituency development program.
