22-year-old boy electrocuted while fishing

KATHMANDU: A youth died from electrocution while fishing in the river. Sanjay Bham, 22, of Bham Wada in Chayannath Rara Municipality-4, died on Friday after getting electrocuted while attempting to catch fish in the Ghate river in Chayannath Rara Municipalities 1 and 4 of Mugu District.

Bham, who had gone fishing in the river with a battery and a 12-volt inverter, was rushed to District Hospital Mugu by his friends after he was hit by the electric shock, but died soon after reaching the hospital, said Deputy Superintendent of Police at District Police Office Mahesh Basnet. The body has been kept at District Hospital Mugu for autopsy.

Batteries and inverters used for fishing have been seized by the police.

The use of current for fishing in the Mugu Karnali River and its tributaries has been increasing in recent years.
