KATHMANDU: Nepal was defeated by Scotland in the first one-day practice match ahead of the ICC One-Day World Cup Qualifiers.

Scotland defeated Nepal by 7 wickets in a practice match in South Africa on Thursday. Scotland reached the 136-run target set by Nepal by adding 137 runs in 29 overs despite losing three wickets. Brandon McMullen batted an undefeated fifty-run innings of 59 runs in Scotland’s victory. Richie Berrington hit 41 runs while remaining undefeated.

Gulshan Jha of Nepal took two wickets, while Sompal Kami took one.

Prior to that, Nepal, who won the toss and batted first, was all out for 135 runs in 28 overs. Kushal Malla scored the most runs for Nepal, with 37. Off 26 balls, he hit four fours and two sixes. Aasif Sheikh, the opener, scored 28 runs, while Kushal Bhurtel scored 16.

While Dipendra Singh Airee scored 13 runs for Nepal, no other batsmen reached double figures.

Brendan McCumlan and Jack Jarvis of Scotland each grabbed three wickets. Similarly, Safyaan Sharif had two wickets, while Neil and Hamza Tahir both had one.

Nepal is exercising in South Africa as a final preparation for the World Cup qualifiers.

On Saturday, the Nepali squad will play its second practice match against the Netherlands.
