6 killed in explosion in Pakistan’s Punjab

ISLAMABAD: At least six people were killed and two others injured in an explosion in Kot Addu district of eastern Punjab province, police officials said on Thursday.

The explosion took place when members of the same family were busy in sorting out scrap and other waste material inside their house in the Daira Din Panah area of the district, Deputy Superintendent Police of the district Mujahid Hussain told Xinhua, adding that women and children are among the victims.

He said that the cause and nature of the blast are being determined by law enforcement agencies. According to an initial investigation report, some unknown object in the scrap has caused the blast, the official said.

Taking notice of the incident, Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi expressed sorrow over the loss of lives in a tragic manner and directed the concerned authorities to submit a detailed report on the issue.
