Extreme heat causes schools to shut in Sunsari

INARUWA: Three local levels in Sunsari district have decided to close all public schools within their boundaries citing rising temperatures.
According to Inaruwa Municipality Mayor Kedar Bhandari, all public schools in the municipality have been instructed to close for a week from June 1 to 7.
This intends to safeguard schoolchildren from different problems caused by the heat, he said, adding that classes missed due to the school shutdown will be compensated by shortening the summer vacation period.
Similarly, the Bhokraha Narsingh Rural Municipality has directed that community schools close for six days from June 1 to 6, and that schools in Itahari Sub Metropolitan City close for two days on June 1-2.
Since a few days, the temperature in the eastern Terai areas has risen, disrupting people’s daily lives.
