National cricket squad left for South Africa, Sandeep didn’t travel

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s national cricket squad has left for South Africa.

On Tuesday night, the national cricket squad flew for South Africa to undertake final preparations for the ICC World Cup qualifiers.

The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has named the national team for the ICC World Cup Qualifiers, led by Rohit Paudel.

The influential spinner Sandeep Lamichha has not been included in the national team. Sandeep was unable to travel to South Africa since the rape case against him had not been resolved.

Sandeep, who did not travel to South Africa with the national squad, wished the team’s other members success on Facebook.

Nepal will play friendlies against the Netherlands and Scotland during their South African tour. According to CAN, after the practice match, the Nepali squad would depart for Zimbabwe to play the ICC World Cup Qualifiers from South Africa.

The World Cup qualification competition, which will be hosted in Zimbabwe, will feature ten teams. There are two categories of participating teams. Nepal is competing in Group ‘A’ of the competition.

Nepal’s group includes hosts Zimbabwe, the West Indies, the Netherlands, and America.

The Nepali team will play their first match against Zimbabwe on June 18. Nepal will play the United States in the second match on June 20, the West Indies in the third match on June 22, and the Netherlands in the fourth and final match on June 24.

Sri Lanka, Ireland, Scotland, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates make up Group ‘B’ of the World Cup Qualifiers. The top three teams from each group will advance to the ‘Super Six’ round.

The teams from one group will compete against the teams from the opposite group in the ‘Super Six’ stage.

Following that, the top two teams will qualify for the ICC One-Day International World Cup. India is hosting the ICC One Day Cricket World Cup.

The following countries have already qualified for the World Cup: India, Pakistan, Australia, New Zealand, Bangladesh, England, South Africa, and Afghanistan.
