KATHMANDU: Argentina’s Mauricio Pochettino will take over as coach of Premier League team Chelsea.

Chelsea has announced that Pochettino will take over as manager on July 1. Pochettino has signed a two-year contract with Chelsea.

Chelsea discussed with former Barcelona coach Luis Enrique, former Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann for a new coach.

However, Chelsea’s management has opted to appoint Pochettino their permanent coach.

Pochettino is currently without a club after being fired by PSG in July. From January 2021 to July 2022, he was the head coach of PSG. Similarly, he was the coach of Premier League club Tottenham for over five years before that.

The 51-year-old Pochettino coached Tottenham and led the club to the Champions League final.

Chelsea appointed interim coach Graham Potter this season after firing regular coach Thomas Tuchel in September.

However, following a string of disappointing performances, Chelsea terminated Potter in April and appointed Frank Lampard as interim manager until the conclusion of the season.
