In Pics: Republic Day celebration in Tundikhel

KATHMANDU: The 16th Republic Day is being marked nationwide by organizing several programmes today.

The 16th Republic Day commemorates the establishment of the federal democratic republican system of government, in which all governmental power is entrusted in the people. Nepalis all across the world are celebrating Republic Day.

The Republic Day was celebrated in magnificent style this morning at the military platoon in Tundikhel, Kathmandu, in the presence of President Ram Chandra Poudel. The day was marked with flower showers and security guards.

The President, Vice President, Prime Minister, Speaker, Speaker of the National Assembly, and leaders of various political parties attended the ceremony to extend their heartfelt greetings and best wishes to all the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for the establishment of republic in the country and abroad.

Leaders of the political parties which were in the forefront of the struggle for the federal, democratic republic system have also extended their gratitude to the entire general public who participated in the movement for attaining republic.

The first Constituent Assembly, elected by the people, formally terminated the despotic monarchy and declared the establishment of a federal democratic republican governance system in Nepal on Jestha 15, 2065 (28 May, 2008).
