KATHMANDU: Resham Chaudhary, the Nagarik Unmukti Party’s mentor, has been released from prison.
Chaudhary was released on Republic Day after gaining amnesty from the President after being convicted in the Tikapur murder case and condemned to prison by all three levels of courts.
He was jailed 6 years ago. Hundreds of politicians, activists, and well-wishers, including his spouse Ranjita Chaudhary, Nagarik Unmukti Party leader Aliza Gautam, and well-wishers, gathered at Dillibazar Jail to greet him.
Resham has been greeted grandly with garlands. Leaders and activists are ecstatic over his release.
Chaaudhary, who was convicted by all three courts in the Tikapur murder case and was serving a life sentence, was granted amnesty by President Ram Chandra Poudel on Republic Day.
President Poudel pardons 501 prisoners today on the occasion of Republic Day.
