KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Janamorcha has objected to the government’s decision to award Resham Chaudhary amnesty.

Chair Chitra Bahadur KC delivered a statement in which he expressed his opposition to the process of providing amnesty to Chaudhary, the alleged Chair of the Nagarik Unmukti Party.

The Jana Morcha believes that granting amnesty to him will increase impunity, politicization of crime and criminalization of politics. ‘The Tikapur massacre was not a political incident but a general massacre. The process carried out by the government to grant an amnesty to the main suspect in that incident and release him from imprisonment on the occasion of Republic Day is only a political transaction or bargaining to maintain his government,’ the statement said, ‘In the past, the government had decided not to pursue the case through political bargaining in the case of Rabi Lamichhane’s passport. But how much did the bargaining cost the government? It is clear.’

KC has demanded the government to halt the process of awarding Resham Chaudhary amnesty. ‘Giving amnesty to the culprits or those implicated in the Tikapur atrocity will enhance impunity, politicization of crime, and criminalization of politics,’ he added in the statement. As a result, the country has anarchy and impunity rather than the rule of law. As a result, we propose that the government halt the process of granting amnesty to Resham Chaudhary.
