KATHMANDU: On Thursday, an assailant in Japan killed three people, including two police officers.

The attackers in Nagano, central Japan, shot and stabbed multiple individuals, according to Japanese media.

One person was injured in the attack says authorities.

A witness told NHK public television that a woman fell while being chased by the suspect, who then stabbed her with a knife and shot at two police officers as they arrived at the scene in a patrol car in Nakano city in Nagano prefecture.

The suspect was wearing a camouflage hat, top and bottoms with sunglasses, mask and dressed like a soldier.

The authorities have begun their search for him. Residents in the region where the incident occurred have been warned not to leave their houses unless absolutely necessary.

It is not clear why the person involved in Thursday’s incident attacked.

Gun violence is extremely rare in Japan, a country of 125 million people. Due to its exceptionally strong gun control legislation, it has one of the lowest rates of gun crime in the world.

However, Japan was shocked by a shooting last year that echoed throughout the world.
