Proposal to President to commute Resham Chaudhary’s prison sentence
Prime Minister Prachanda, according to sources, discussed this with President last Tuesday.
KATHMANDU: The government has made a request to the President to commute the remaining sentence of Nagarik Unmukti Party founder Resham Chaudhary, who is serving a birth jail sentence.
After being found guilty by the court in 2072, Tikapur of Kailali, in which 7 security personnel and a minor were slain, the government submitted a recommendation to the President’s office to pardon the remainder of his prison sentence.
Prime Minister Prachanda, according to sources, discussed this with President last Tuesday.
According to the provision in Article 276 of the Constitution, ‘the President may pardon, postpone, change or reduce the sentence imposed by any court, judicial or quasi-judicial body or administrative officer or body in accordance with the law’, he proposed to pardon the sentence.
