The festival will exhibit 37 films, including feature films, documentaries, short films, and animations, from 11 nations, including Nepal, America, Egypt, India, and Pakistan, from June 22 to 25.
According to reports, the festival’s opening and closing ceremonies will take place at the AFI Silver Theatre in Maryland, and the films will also be presented at the AFI and the Old Greenbelt Theatre.
The Nepal-America Film Society, the festival’s organizer, says the showing of ‘Ainaa Jhyal Ko Putali,’ directed by Bidari and nominated for an Oscar on Nepal’s behalf, will kick off the festival on June 22.
Similarly, the festival will finish on June 25 with the production of ‘Pasang: In the Shadow of Everest,’ directed by American director Nancy Svendsen, and the awards will be distributed.
The organizer also informed that two films will be screened this year in partnership with the Global Peace Film Festival Florida, with whom it has collaborated from its start, and that a special screening of ‘The Secret of Radha’ will take place in the presence of filmmaker Suvarna Thapa. Various awards will be given to the best films among those screened.
It is said that the names of this year’s jury will be announced in a few days. During the festival, there will be a ‘panel’ discussion on film, culture and new technology. It is said that the discussion will be held with the help of the ‘Parks and Planning Commission’ of the state of Maryland. “After the corona epidemic, we are excited that all the performances of this year are going to be organized physically,” says Yuwakar Rajakarnikar, director of the festival.
The Film Society’s film selection committee selected the films for screening during the festival. Since 2017, the Nepal-America Film Society, based in Maryland, has organized the festival on an annual basis.
