KATHMANDU: Hari Bahadur Budha, a Mount Everest climber who lost both legs up to the knee, arrived at Tribhuvan International Airport today.

Summiteer Budha, who arrived in Kathmandu from Lukla, was welcomed by Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Sudan Kiranti, tourism professionals and the Magar community with tableaus.

Budha, a former Gurkha soldier, reached the summit of the world’s highest peak, Everest, on the afternoon of Jestha 5 (May 19). In addition, he is the first person to climb Mount Everest with an artificial leg.

During his welcome, Tourism Minister Kirati commended summiteer Hari Bahadur Budha for his unwavering courage throughout his life.

‘Hari Bahadur Budha has given a new message to the world community from the top of the tallest mountain Everest,’ Minister Kiranti said. ‘He has given a message to the entire community that nothing is impossible with hard work and willpower.’

Summiteer Budha took this opportunity to express his gratitude to the crew that assisted him in his success.

“Despite your busy schedule, you have come to welcome me, and I want to thank you very much for this,” he said, adding that “my efforts would not have been successful without the team that risked their lives to take me to the top of Mount Everest.”

On that occasion, he thanked the Nepalese government and all those who had supported him from all over the world.
