KATHMANDU: Around 500 people have successfully ascended Mount Everest, also known as Sagarmatha.
According to the Department of Tourism, 500 mountaineers and guides scaled Mt Sagarmatha this spring.
Approximately 500 people have climbed Mount Everest up until this point. A total of 478 mountaineers have earned expedition permits to climb Mount Everest during the spring season.
The 500 also comprise Sherpa guides from various expedition teams, as well as Department Director General Hom Prasad Luintel.
As the weather has been favorable, the scaling of the several mountains, including Sagarmatha, has been encouraging. This year’s spring climbing season began on May 13.
The 478 permits issued is the highest in history to date of the permits to climb Mount Everest in the spring season. This includes 103 women and 376 men from 47 mountaineering teams, adds the department.
