With the sight of the most magnificent Panch Pokhari, Panch Pokhari Rural Municipality-3 Chimti village of Bhotang lets everyone entirely forget the trials of a two-day hike from the market.
The ‘adventure’ (22 km) trail made by excavating the cliff passes Nosyam, Tapkharka, Torpuli, Lauri Binayak, and Bhumedev’s Cliff.
Panch Pokhari is a group of five ponds in the Sindhupalchwok district that are sacred to Hindus.
These Panch Pokhari, which are the source of Indrawati, all have different names – Bhairav Kund, Saraswati Kund, Ganesh Kund, Surya Kund and Nag Kund.
In terms of religion, the Himavata section of the Skandha Purana depicts a great pilgrimage place called Pancha Pokhari, which is supposed to be identical to Tirtharaj Prayag and Bandganga (Kurukshetra).
Panch Pokhari Lake is well-known not just for its natural beauty, but also for its religious significance.
On the day of Janai Purnima, the Panch Pokhari areas that can be reached from both the Sindhupalchowk headquarters Chautara and Melamchi Municipality are within the protected area of Langtang National Park.
The Shiva temple with Panch Pokhari is regarded as a wish-fulfillment shrine. There is a prevalent notion that taking a bath in the pond in the neighboring Mahadev temple, which is divided into five ponds, will cleanse you of your sins and fulfill your heart’s desires.
After about an hour’s uphill journey from the place where there are Panch Pokhari, you will reach the highest hill in the area. When the weather is clear, you can see the panoramic view of the mountains from that hill.
This area has not been able to become a tourist destination due to a lack of effective publicity, and the physical infrastructure has not been created.
Special fairs are held in Panch Pokhari on the day before Janai Purnima and on the day of Mangsir Purnima.
