KATHMANDU: The film “Hookah: An Absurd Dream” will be released on Jestha 12 (May 26).

The lead actor in this film is Santosh Kumar Atreya. He wrote the script for the movies.

He has detailed the beginning of the plot in the film “Hookah: An Absurd Dream” in great detail. After a lengthy time of production and performance of ‘Dhauli’, producer Santosh Kumar Atreya was busy in pre-production of another film ‘Balai Farara’ in Kathmandu.

He saw a sympathy advertisement for a 40-year-old industrialist and social worker in Kantipur daily while getting ready to go to the film shoot.

The advertising ‘clicked’ with him so much that he remembered it for a month. ‘The picture would not have been made if sympathy had not been seen. What occurred in the family when that industrialist and social worker died, and how is the family now? “I was moved by the subject of how many similar incidents had occurred to other families and individuals, and I wrote the story,” Santosh adds.

He conveyed his sympathy to director Parichhed Sen, producer Rabindra Singh Baniya, and producer Prachandaman Shrestha. While receiving support from everyone to make a film, the pre-production work on the film ‘Balai Farara’ was halted. Santosh arrived in Pokhara after the film’s production was halted.

For a month, Santosh walked around remembering the story. He never mentioned it. He only began working on the draft after reaching in Pokhara. The first and second drafts of the film took him three months, while the final draft took him five months.

‘After reaching to Pokhara, I narrated the first draft of the film to Shambhu Thapa. Then Netra Gurung, Shambhu Thapa, and I took our seats. We gave the seventh draft to Nir Shah and Tej Giri after completing it. “After they also gave us good suggestions, we decided to make the film,” Santosh recalls.

Santosh claims that some of the film’s scenes are based on true incidents. ‘We have witnessed the wife’s anguish in a new light in society once her spouse moves overseas. This film, according to Santosh, contains some of that difference.

According to him, the film also addressed the issue of educated people being unable to understand society. ‘They have a very rudimentary understanding of society and its economic structure. Workers are unaware of the value of money. This issue is also addressed in the film,” Santosh says.

Santosh himself appears in the film. He had no idea he would play that character when he wrote the script. That’s how things turned out. He didn’t even propose to a known artist. Santosh, on the other hand, did not lag behind once the members of the film encouraged him. In 2052, Santosh studied acting under late director Pratap Subba.
