Nominations for ‘Mero Gaun, Mero Thau’ video challenge announced

KATHMANDU: For the ‘Mero Gaun, Mero Thau (My Village, My Place)’ video challenge 2023, 70 documentaries have been nominated in 10 distinct categories.
Out of a total of 258 submissions from across the country, 70 documentaries have been shortlisted.
We Will Rise Foundation has been conducting a statewide documentary competition called ‘Mero Gaun, Mero Thau,’ which focuses on any essential natural and cultural heritage, caste identity, food, art culture, and so on that are eclipsed by tourism.
The foundation requested that documentaries be received between Falgun 12 (Feb 24) last year and Baisakh 21 (May 4) this year.
The organizers will present awards for West Video of the Year, Judges’ Choice Award, Story Concept/West Direction, Best Video Maker of the Year, Future Star of the Year, Most Potential Destination, Most Energetic Video Maker, Best Script/Voice Over, Best Cinematographer, and Best Editor.
Nominated in 10 different categories. Each category has seven videos nominated.
Director Bhushan Dahal, actress Karishma Manandhar, President of Press Council Nepal Bal Krishna Basnet, Director and Cinematographer Sabnam Mukhia, Manager of Nepal Tourism Board Archana KC Rana, General Manager of Nepal Industry Confederation Deepak Raj Joshi (Former CEO of Tourism Board) and Director of We Will Rise Foundation Nirmal Shrestha are the judges in the documentary selection team.
The best video of the year will receive five lakh rupees, the judges’ choice award will receive two lakh rupees, and all other categories will receive one lakh rupees each in cash, according to the organizer, ‘Mero Gaun, Mero Thau Video Challenge 2023’ award.
The competition’s big finale will be held on Jestha 13 (May 27) at the National Auditorium in Kathmandu, under the joint initiative of the We Will Rise Foundation and Nepal Television.
According to the organizer, the show would be televised live on Nepal Television. The initiative is also supported by the Nepal Tourism Board and the Film Development Board.
