Khanikhola Rural Municipality providing grant for coffee production

KAVRE: The Khanikhola Rural Municipality in Kavre district has accorded top priority for coffee farming, health care of senior citizens and education to the hapless children.
Talking to the media on completion his one-year in office, Chair of Khanikhola Rural Municipality Indra Bahadur Theeng said that his local level has entered into the phase of development and prosperity due to focus on infrastructure development, agriculture and education.
“Several things have happened in the field of social justice, good-governance and development in the past one year,” Chair Theeng said.
He shared that the rural municipality has provided grant to the farmers in coffee production.
According to Theeng, the farmers are provided with Rs 35 per kilogram for coffee production along with declaration of coffee pocket area aiming at enhancing farmers’ economic condition.
The rural municipality has selected coffee farming for sustainable income of the rural folks and doled out subsidy to the farmers involved in the farmers’ groups and agriculture cooperative.
It is said that altogether 176 farmers received Rs 500,000 in cash so far. This year, the farmers grew 15,000 kilograms of coffee in the rural municipality.
Chair Theeng stated that Rs 3.5 million has been allocated in the current fiscal year to encourage the farmers for coffee farming. “We plan to distribute some 35,000 plants of coffee,” he said.
Likewise, the disable children in the rural municipality are given residential schooling from grade 1 to 10.
