Returnee migrant workers permitted to bring two mobile phones

KATHMANDU: Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) is implementing Mobile Device Management System (MDMS) from Jestha 1 (May 15).

Following the implementation of this arrangement, the authority will make it such that only people who have gone overseas for job after receiving a work permit and are returning will be able to bring up to two mobile phones with them.

The government has changed the requirements of Order 2077 concerning items for private use and has made plans to bring two mobile phones.

The authorities stated that it will deploy MDMS in order to govern the import and use of mobile phones in Nepal.

It has been arranged that mobile sets brought from abroad for personal purposes and passed the inspection at the customs office will be automatically registered in the MDMS system’, the authority has issued a notification and said, ‘according to the order on goods for private use 2077, mobile sets brought from abroad for personal purposes can be registered by the concerned person.’

For registration, a passport or citizenship, as well as a passport page or boarding pass that is visible when traveling overseas and returning, must be uploaded, NTA said in a statement.
