KATHMANDU: Mukesh Kayastha, who was injured during the protest, would be proclaimed a martyr, according to Federal Affairs and General Administration Minister Amanlal Modi.

Addressing the funeral meeting of Mukesh of Banepa Municipality-8, who died on Wednesday evening, he asked him not to have doubts about declaring Mukesh a martyr. The nation is in mourning today due to his death”, said Minister Modi.

Stating that the citizens of Kavreli should be proud of Mukesh’s contribution in achieving democracy, he urged the Kayastha family to turn grief into strength.

“There are very few ‘Living Martyr’ in history,” Minister Modi added, “and Mukesh was one of them.” For 18 years, he fought death from his bed.”

He claimed that the death of a special citizen would be more ‘special’ than that of the average citizen, and that each man would die in a different way.

On that occasion, the Mukesh Foundation petitioned Minister Modi to designate Mukesh a martyr and build a health facility in his honor.

Mukesh’s body has been placed in the Banepa Municipality office premises as a mark of respect. The tribute meeting was attended by Kavrepalanchowk federal MPs Suryaman Dong and Gokul Prasad Baskota, State Assembly members Kanchan Chandra Wade and Laxman Lamsal, home ministry secretary Dinesh Bhattarai, leaders and activists of political parties in the area, and local citizens.

Mukesh’s body is expected to be transported throughout the city in the afternoon and cremated at Ugratirtha in Banepa in the evening.

Mukesh, who passed away on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. while undergoing treatment at the hospital, was 15 years old when he was injured in the mass march. He was 32 years old and was being treated at Banepa’s Scheer Memorial Hospital after his health difficulties had persisted for a few days.

Mukesh was severely hurt by a security personnel bullet on his left leg during the three rounds of Banepa on 2062 Chaitra 27 (9 April, 2006). His left hand was stiff that day.

Mukesh had a huge hole in his head, despite the fact that the bullet wound had healed. Mukesh, who has been bedridden since being struck by a bullet fired by security officers, was dubbed the “Living Martyr.”

During the second agitation, Bhimsen Dahal of Nala in Kaverapalanchowk, Sagun Tamrakar of Panauti in Kalangki, Shiva Hari Kunwar of Bhimkhori in Banepa, and Sunil Kumar Lama of Nagre Gagarche in Jorpati in Kathmandu were all slain, and 40 people were injured.
