KATHMANDU: Pathibhara Temple is a renowned pilgrimage place in Taplejung. Pathibhara Temple is a holy site for both Hindus and Buddhists.
It is situated in the Taplejung district at a height of 12,000 feet. Pathibhara’s sacred site, dedicated to the goddess of faith, faith, and purity, is located 3794 meters above sea level, 19.4 kilometers northeast of Taplejung district headquarters, Phungling. Throughout the year, devotees throned to this temple. As the location of origin of the goddess is on the peak of the Pathibhara hill, which has a beautiful and attractive shape like a grain-filled pathi, the name of this goddess is called ‘Pathibhara Devi’ with reverence and devotion. Pathibhara is known as ‘Muktuvung’ by the Taplejung Limbu communities.
‘Muktu’ signifies power or strength in Limbu, while ‘wung’ denotes plant. To put it another way, the Limbu caste represents Pathibhara as a source or route of power or strength.
After walking steeply uphill for about 2 hours through the forest of Lekali Angeri, Gobresallo, Dhupi, Gurans, and Malingo ghari, you can reach the hill where the Pathibharadevi temple is located, from which you can see snow ranges like Kanchanjunga and Kumbhakarna, but that view was not possible this year due to bad weather.
How to reach Pathibhara temple?
Taplejung is accessible from both Koteshwor in the federal capital and New Bus Park. After traveling for roughly 24 hours by micro bus, one can reach Taplejung, and from Taplejung, one can reach Sano Phedi in 1 hour and 30 minutes through Suketar in a Bolero jeep. There is potential risk due to the state of the road construction.
As the road only goes as far as Sano Phedi, the Pathibhara temple is only a 5-kilometer uphill hike away & one can reache there by walking. There are enough hotels and lodges in the middle to accommodate everyone.
