Simrik Air crash: one more injured airlifted to Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: One further person has been brought to Kathmandu for treatment after being injured in a Simrik Air chopper crash in Bhotkhola Rural Municipality-4 Siprarung, Sankhuwasabha.

Bikram Shankar, an employee of the Electricity Authority, was brought to Kathmandu by another Simrik Air chopper, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police of District Police Office Sankhuwasabha Birendra Godar.

A chopper crashed into a tree at Hammaredanda of Bhotkhola Rural Municipality-4 Hatia, Sikprung at 1:10 PM today.

The crash gravely injured Captain Surendra Poudel, Co-Pilot Chhiring Bhote, Assistant Manoj Thapa, and Electricity Authority employee Bikram Shankar.

According to the District Police Office Sankhuwasabha, a badly injured local Bhabin Gurung died on the way to the district hospital for treatment.

Three persons, including the injured captain, are being treated at Lalitpur’s Mediciti Hospital. As the injured Shankar could not be treated at the district hospital, he was already sent to Kathmandu by another Simrik Air helicopter for further treatment.

Likewise, one of the five people hurt in the Simrik Air chopper crash has died.

The tragedy occurred while the chopper was landing at the project site.

Simrik Air’s chopper reached in Bhotkhola on Thursday while hauling supplies from the 1,61 MW Upper Arun hydropower, which is still under construction.
