KATHMANDU: CPN (UML) Chairperson KP Sharma Oli has said the International Workers’ Day is being observed in the country as the day which has established the rights of workers.

In a message of best wishes today, the former Prime Minister asserted that the UML-led administration did safeguard workers’ safety and dignity, as well as create a climate conducive to the industrial revolution by addressing workers’ concerns.

He stated that the new labor act protected workers’ social security and a flexible labor market for companies.

According to Chair Oli, the UML has created an environment in which there is no need for pointless strikes and battles in the industrial sector by securing social security for the working class and a flexible labor market for companies through the new labor code.

In the past years, our government has fostered a high level of understanding between businesses and labor.

“A memorandum of understanding was reached between industrialists and workers on the government’s initiatives led by the UML.”

“Through this MoU, there was a highest 39 percent increase in workers’ minimum remunerations,” he stated.

He mentioned that the increase in the minimum wage has ended the problem of strikes and lockouts in the Nepali labor sector, which is suffering from regular industrial conflicts, and then the country’s economy has picked up the pace of rapid development.
