International awards obtained by the movie ‘Halkara’ presented to Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: The award presented at the ‘Worldfest Houston International Film Festival’ in the US to the Actor Mahesh Tripathi and cinematographer Chintan Rajbhandari of the movie ‘Halkara’ have been handed over in Nepal.

Last year, at the 55th Worldfest Houston International Film Festival 2022, this movie won the Best Film, Best Actor and Best Cinematography awards. This movie will be screened in Nepal from Baisakh 29th (May 12).

The award was given in an interaction program with the students at Oscar International College on Thursday. Oscar College Principal Ramraja Dahal, Cinematographer Rajesh Shrestha, Oscar College Academic Director Manoj Babu Pant, Academic Coordinator Nawa Nidhi Dahal, and ‘Halkara’ director Bikram Sapkota presented the awards to Tripathi and Rajbhandari.

The movie also grabs home the festival’s best movie prize. The award was given to director Sapkota at the festival. Tripathi and Rajbhandari were unable to attend the festivities as they were in Nepal. The festival mailed both of their awards to Nepal.

After receiving the award, actor Tripathi stated that if we do good work, we can compete and succeed on a global scale. “I am not particularly ambitious,” he explained, “but ‘confidence’ is required at work.” The fact that we are working in Nepal demonstrates that we are capable of not just achieving success in Nepal, but also of producing world-class work.” Similarly, cinematographer Rajbhandari expressed gratitude to everyone who made it here.

This movie is made in collaboration with Caliper Studios and Icefall Productions. This movie, which covers the tale of every house, a migrant teenager, and a woman who waits for him, has also been shown at several international movie festivals.

It won the ‘Best Long Narrative Film’ award at the Nepal America International Film Festival 2022 and advanced to the semi-finals of the Flicker Rhode Island International Film Festival 2022. Similarly, the UK’s Carmarthen Bay Film Festival 2022 was an approved selection.

The movie starring Mahesh Tripathi and Binita Thapa Magar was directed, written & edited by Bikram Sapkota. Biplav Pratik and Aakash Baral co-written the script. Sharada Giri, Roshni Karki, Pashupati Rai, Umesh Tamang, Bidhya Karki, Prakash Dahal, Bishnu Bhakta Adhikari, Deepak Chhetri, and others star along withh Mahesh and Binita acted in this movie.

Bruno Valenti composed the original music, and Jyoti Rana produced the sound. Leonardo Candian did the coloring.

This movie will be distributed by FD Company in Kathmandu Valley, where it is currently distributed by GGA Group.
