UML observes 24th death anniversary of former Chair Adhikari

KATHMANDU: The 24th memorial day of former CPN-UML chair and former Prime Minister Man Mohan Adhikari was observed.

The UML’s top officials paid respect to the Adhikari today at the Manmohan Memorial Foundation’s Memorial Day in Sanepa, Lalitpur.

During the gathering, UML Chair KP Sharma Oli laid a wreath on the Adhikari’s statue.

Party leaders gathered to commemorate the memorial day of the veteran leader paid tributes to him. UML Chair KP Sharma Oli wreathed the statue of the late Adhikari.

Addressing the gathering, UML senior Vice Chair and Foundation Chair Ishwor Pokhrel insisted on following the footsteps of Adhikari and promoting his ideologies and thoughts. “It would be a true tribute to the late leader if we could contribute for achieving political stability and promoting national sovereignty and independence,” he said.

‘Adhikari’ thoughts, work, and ideals are always alive. We should always be driven to move forward, he remarked. He further stated that institutions and organizations will be founded in the name of Adhikari. Adhikari was the first Communist Prime Minister of Nepal.

He passed away on April 26, 1999 at the age of 78 following a heart attack in course of the election publicity campaign.

He was appointed the Chair of CPN (UML) formed following the unification between the then CPN (ML) and CPN (Marxist) in 2047 BS. As no political parties could secure a clear majority during the 1994 mid-term election, he as the Chair of the largest party became the 31st Prime Minister of Nepal (1994-1995).
