KATHMANDU: Upendra Yadav, the candidate for Bara-2, has seized the early lead in the counting of ballots for the House of Representatives by-election.

Upendra received 224 votes out of 670 total votes cast. He is the JSP candidate for the ruling coalition.

Similarly, Shiva Chandra Prasad Kuswaha, who quit the Maoist core to run for CK Raut’s Janamat Party, finished second with 170 votes.

Purushottam Poudel of the UML received 166 votes, while Ramesh Kharel of the RSP received only 80 votes.
