62 percent votes fell in Chitwan 2, votes count to begin tonight

BHARATPUR: The preliminary results of the Chitwan Constituency No. 2 by-elections show that 62.77 percent of the votes were cast. Voting took place today from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The process of bringing the ballot boxes to the polling location continues following the voting ended. Voting took place in 138 polling stations spread across 43 counties in this constituency.

Chief Superintendent of Police Rameshwar Karki of the District Police Office said that 78,277 people voted. This district had 124,695 voters. There are 63,291 women, 61,433 males, and one transgender person among them.

According to Assistant Election Officer Ishwari Acharya of the Chief Electoral Officer’s Office Chitwan, the process of bringing the counting location to the International Exhibition Center of Udyog Sangh Chitwan has now begun. He stated that the ballot boxes would be delivered by 10 p.m. tonight. With the arrival of the ballot boxes, the Chief Electoral Officer’s office is set to begin counting votes tonight, subject to political party consent. He stated that it was managed in such a way that it could be tallied in four places. He stated that the calculation will be completed in time for the 13th Baisakh (April 26).

There are 22 candidates in this constituency, including Jit Narayan Shrestha of the Nepali Congress from the Democratic Left Alliance, Ram Prasad Neupane of the CPN (UML), and Rabi Lamichhane of the Rastriya Swatantra Party.

The by-election was held after the Supreme Court revoked the position of MP in the citizenship case of Lamichhane, who was elected in the election held on Nov 20. There are three constituencies in the district.

67.63 percent i.e. 84,17 votes were cast in the elections held on Nov 20. At that time there were 124,217 voters.
