By-election: Candidates prohibited using choppers

KATHMANDU: The use of helicopters during by-elections has been prohibited.

Candidates will not be permitted to use choppers in the by-elections scheduled for Baisakh 10 (April 23).

The Election Commission (EC) confirmed this in a statement issued on Tuesday.

According to the press release, in Bara, Chitwan, and Tanahun, where by-elections are held, the period for campaigning is sufficient, and as there is easy access to transportation, choppers are not permitted to be used for campaigning.

According to Guru Prasad Wagle, the Commission’s Assistant Spokesperson, the use of choppers for election campaigning by political party leaders and candidates in areas with easy access to transportation would also be contrary to the principle of frugality.
