JAKARTA: A house was burned down by fire in the Indonesian city of Medan in North Sumatra province Tuesday morning, killing six people, a local official said.
The city’s fire department chief Muhammad Yunus told local media that the fire at the two-story house, occupied by 13 people, occurred around 6:00 a.m. local time.
He explained that the fire allegedly broke out in a kitchen on the first floor. Six tenants on the second floor were then trapped.
“The fire spread really fast and made it impossible for the six victims to flee,” Yunus said, adding that six others managed to escape the fire and suffered light injuries.
The investigation of the cause of the house fire is underway.
