KATHMANDU: Chitra Bahadur KC, President of Rastriya Janamorcha and Member of Parliament, has stated that the policy of evaluating land based on roads should be reconsidered.
During an extraordinary House of Representatives meeting on Tuesday, MP KC stated that the residents were unable to pay the revenue since the land was assessed based on the road. He requested that the administration rethink its policy.
MP KC suggested that the restriction prohibiting squatters and disorganized dwellers from selling land for ten years be repealed.
He said – ‘Land use policy, land act and the current formation order, when land is evaluated based on the arable land, the people have reached a situation where they cannot pay the revenue. It should be reviewed by the government. The provision of not being able to sell land for ten years should be removed for slum dwellers and unorganized dwellers. What is the state of Gai Jatra when state cannot pay the revenue even if he sells all the land that he used to enjoy the land? Dozens of squatters commissions were formed, but only the squatters of the country looked at that commission. Even now, the commissions which have been formed, will evaluate the land on the basis of the road. If he has to sell that land in some way, he cannot pay the price of that land even if he sells it and sells other assets, what is this play? When assessing the land based on the road, can those squatters pay for the land?’
MP KC said that despite the formation of dozens of squatters commissions in the country, the problems of squatters have not been resolved.
