Beginning of the new year 2080

KATHMANDU: Today is the first day of Bikram Sambat 2080. New year 2080 has started from today. The solstice in which the sun enters from the sign of Pisces into the sign of Aries is called Aries or Baisakh Sankranti.
The first day of the new year is being celebrated today in Nepal and abroad by exchanging good wishes with each other with joy.

Nowadays, there is a tradition of making plans and making good decisions to achieve success. There is also a tradition of starting new work on this day. It is done early in the morning to bathe, clean the house, room and yard, eat sweets, meet with friends and best friends and express good wishes to each other. There is a popular belief that a good start on the first day of the new year will lead to success throughout the year.
This sambat is called Bikram Sambat as it was ruled by Bikramaditya. Bikram Sambat has been held as the original sambat in Nepal since the Malla period. Only in Nepal this sambat runs fundamentally. Even though the government system in India is Shaka system, in practice it is AD system.
Shaka Sambat from Bikram Sambat 135, Mandev Sambat from 633 Sambat, Nepal Sambat from Bikram Sambat 936. Among these sambats, now the practice of Mandev Sambat has disappeared. Historians say that in the 12th century, when a scholar from Gujarat moved a book, a written document using Bikram Sambat was found for the first time.
On the occasion of the beginning of the new year, there is a tradition of giving public holidays in government offices, public institutes and educational institutions across Nepal.
