KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has stated that the administration wishes to expand the activities and contribution of the private sector.

He made the remarks while kicking off the 57th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Federation of Nepal Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI).

“Without a strong and powerful private sector, the country cannot be prosperous, and the goal of sustainable development cannot be achieved,” he said, “The government is prepared for whatever reforms need to be made”.

He said that he understood the problems of the private sector very well and said that since the day he took over the leadership of the government, he has been discussing how to quickly bring the crisis-prone economy to a comfortable state.

He stated that, while the new constitution is projected to result in a qualitative leap in economic progress and prosperity, the economy is currently in crisis due to national and international conditions and dimensions.

“The private sector has been playing a significant role in the production of goods, market management, job creation, growth of national income and the overall development of the country,” he said, “Earthquake, COVID-19, political ups and downs and instability, Russia-Ukraine war and other factors have affected the economy.”

He said that the current economic stress cannot be alleviated without the cooperation of the private sector and the public sector. He said that suggestions have been made after discussing with the private sector and all stakeholders.

He said that the current third term has become more challenging than the first and second terms when he was the prime minister. However, he said that more force will be used to bring the economy into a rhythm.

He stated that there is a need to increase revenue collection, liquidity, foreign exchange reserves, and so on, and that the administration is now concentrating on this. He stated that revenue collection, remittance flow, and foreign exchange reserves have all improved.

“By providing the constitutional arrangement of the three-pillar economic policy, the constitution has put forward the model of private, partnership, and cooperative, it makes it clear that the national aspirations of prosperity and development can be achieved only through strong unity and cooperation between the state and the private sector,” he said. I also express my willingness to reach the aforementioned conclusion following the appropriate debates in this proposal, which should be honored and incorporated into the protocol.
